Elena Valenzuela, B.A. (Carleton), M.A. (U of Ottawa), PhD. (McGill University) is the judge for the Best Foreign Voice category and graciously took up the challenge in this first year of the category’s existence.
Elena Valenzuela specializes in second language acquisition, bilingualism, Hispanic linguistics, syntax, morphology and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario in the faculty of Modern Languages and Literatures.
Modern Languages and Literatures offers a variety of undergraduate courses and program options in Comparative Literature and Culture, German, and Spanish. Courses in Italian, Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, Russian and Polish language and culture are also offered.
The Department also offers graduate programs in Spanish (MA) and Comparative Literature (MA and PhD). Recent graduates from Western’s Comparative Literature and Spanish MA programs have won fellowships to such prestigious universities as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and the University of Toronto.
Best Foreign Voice Criteria

The Best Foreign Voice Award honors a male or female voice actors who have been working full-time in voice over as a professional for three or more years.
Criteria:
- Voice actor may self-nominate or be nominated by a voice over coach, colleague or client
- A recent sample of their voice or voice over work must be hosted on their Voices.com website
- Has studied for a period of time with a voice over coach or has attended multiple workshops for voice acting
- Must be a native speaker of a language other than American English or Canadian English. Talent who were born outside of the US or Canada but now reside in either country are eligible to enter. Those born of parents who immigrated to either Canada or the US who grew up speaking the native tongue and dialect of their parents are also eligible.
- Each voice actor needs to have a professional headshot or graphical image representative of themselves or of their work to be used for promotion on Voices.com web properties and complementary voice over sites
